Alcotec Vodka Star Turbo Yeast

Ideal for pot stills (but works well with a reflux still too), with their lower capability of reducing impurities - or indeed anytime you want to produce the cleanest possible wash.

Tolerates high temperatures
It has another interesting property - although that wasn't exactly what we developed it to do; It performs very well at extreme (high) temperatures. Compared to most other turbo's out there, the VodkaStar will actually produce a good moonshine wash even at ambient temperatures of 35C.
When to use it

When a very pure wash is required - i.e. mainly if you use a pot still which doesn't separate out impurities as well as a reflux still. We originally developed it for all the pot still users out there but "Pot Still Turbo" is such a boring name and it does have some interesting use even for reflux still users or indeed even as a high alcohol kit (making moonshine without distillation). It can also be well worth experimenting with this turbo + a reflux still and using less than normal activated carbon which should turn out cheaper for the same quality. As a high alcohol kit; This turbo is the best in the Alcotec range if you wish to use your ash with essences directly without any distilling. You may still want to experiment with using activated carbon though (check out our liquid carbon solution due to be released in 2004).

Alcotec24 - 24 Hour Turbo Yeast

Not only does the Alcotec Turbo Pure 24 ferment faster than anything else on the planet, it also produces superclean vodka out of your still, ready for treatment with activated carbon filters and essences.

Forget what the home distillation handbook says about temperature sensitivity! Alcotec 24 will work fine between 20-30 C (68-86 F). It will ferment 6 kgs of sugar to 14% alcohol in only 24 hours.

Alcotec48 Dual Turbo yeast

It can ferment 25 litres of water and 6kg of sugar to produce 14% alcohol in 48 hours

Or, it will produce 20% Alcohol from 8kg sugar

 

Turbo Yeast: Alcotec Turbo Pure 48 is an amazing all-round superyeast for home makers of spirit. It will ferment 6 kgs of normal sugar in a 25 litre solution in 48 hours or less, even under difficult circumstances.

Forget what the home distillation handbook says about temperature sensitive fermentations, watching the temperature, problems in the summer, you name it. Alcotec 48 works in ambient temperatures up to 30 C (86 F). It will produce very clean alcohol but you should still use activated carbon filtration for optimum purification before mixing with essences.

The original Turbo yeast.

It will ferment out 6 kg of sugar in 25 litres of water in 3 days

Alcotec - the "6" means it ferments 6 kgs of sugar in 25 litres) is the best example of this type. It will ferment 14% of alcohol in 3 days. It performs best in 25 litres but you can increase the volume somewhat (i.e.2 sachets and 50 litres). Larger volumes are possible but best with temperature control (cooling equipment). Without cooling of large batches fermentation will stick too soon at a low alcohol level.

Fermentation is over at s.g. 985 (approximately). Don't make the common mistake and assume that s.g. 1000 (0 on some hydrometers) means finished - there will be 2% more alcohol still to come! Always check s.g. and if fermentation sticks too high, there is probably a temperature problem. Have a look in our turbo yeast tips section for troubleshooting.

We also produce some speciality superyeasts, like the "stackable" GoldYeast 200 (currently only for the Scandinavian market) which will work well without cooling in batches up to 200 litres and can handle up to 600 litres without cooling but with some performance loss (but other superyeasts would cave in totally here).

High Alcohol (18-20%)

This was the first single sachet high turbo yeast.

Alcotec 8 got its name from the fact that it will ferment 8 kgs of sugar in a 25 litre solution. Alcotec 8 is a high alcohol Turbo Yeast producing 20% alcohol by volume in only 5 days - another “impossible” achievment from Alcotec.

ferments 8 kgs of sugar in 25 litres)is the best example. It is very difficult to make a high alcohol superyeast but Alcotec 8 was the first major break through in the world. In only 5 days, it will produce nearly 20% of alcohol from 8 kgs of sugar in 25 litres total volume.

The drawback with a high alcohol turbo is that it is more temperature sensitive than the "low alcohol" type. You MUST keep the liquid temperature below 24-25 C at all times or your fermentation will stick too high.

The amazing Alcotec48 is the next generation of high alcohol Turbo's. It is a "dual" turbo, you can choose if you want to ferment 14% alcohol in 2 days or 20% in 5 days and it is also much more temperature tolerant than the Alcotec 8. This turbo was launched in 2003

Alcotec 23% Turbo Yeast

 New alcotec 23% uses a new technique to produce a really high alcohol.

It is bentonite carbon based so you have to add turboklar to clear the finished product.

It's also better if you use dextrose monohydrate as normal household sugar tends to make the ferment stick.

Produces lots of alcohol very cleanly and works well for those who just want an alcoholic base.

Alcotec Triple Still Yeast

The new Alcotec Triple Still yeast produces very pure alcohol.

Perfect for the table top still

It uses bentonite and activated carbon. The carbon is in the mix during fermentation which improves purity even more.

The carbon absorbs unwanted flavours and substances but it remains in supension after fermentation stops.

To remove the carbon you can use Turbo Klar, one sachet is enough for 5 gallons

 If the end product was distilled alll the flavours and by products would be released by the distillation process so  it is even more  important to use a fining agent to remove the carbon if distilling.

The new boy and the golden boy!

Gold is our newest turbo yeast. It will replace the Alcotec 6 and it does everything the old version did and a bit more. For pure fermentations, this is the turbo to use (unless you aim at hyper-purity in which case Vodka Star is your choice).

Just as the Alcotec 6, this one will ferment out 6 kgs of sugar in a 25-litre wash in approximately 3 days. The new bit is that we have used some exciting new techniques for the first time to minimise the need for activated carbon filters (yes you still need them but they will last longer and the result is better).

The Alcotec 24 TurboKlar will clear your turbowash in only 24 hours to brightness, or near-brightness. Ready for your still, and for the final treatment with activated carbon and essences.

Alcotec 24 TurboKlar will help producing very clean alcohol with a minimum of off-flavours. Your spirit will normally need treatment with activated carbon for maximum quality but you may well find that your charcoal lasts longer because of the clean alcohol produced.

We recommend using Vinland essences when flavouring your homemade vodka. This is a small, very high quality range of the core types of spirit essences.
